See migrants, gender, poverty, embrace a society that leaves no one behind A compatible and sustainable society depends on how we live with people of different identities, backgrounds and genders. In the sustainable action carnival, a social compatibility lecture was specially arranged. The founder of One-Forty Chen Kaixiang, the female fan Head of Content Zhang Wanyun, and the co-founder of Life Baiwei Wu Yande respectively cut in from the perspectives of migrant workers, gender, and poverty, and talked about how everyone Embrace diversity and promote social compatibility. Understanding the journey of immigrant workers: One-Forty invites the public to tear off the labels and leave blessings "Over the past 30 years, the number of migrant workers in Taiwan has continued to increase." Chen Kaixiang pointed out the situation at the beginning. Most migrant workers come to Taiwan to serve as family caregivers, and they play an indispensable role in the aging Taiwanese society. According to statistics, about 300,000 families in Taiwan have hired immigrant workers as caregivers for their elders. "When the elders in our family need the company of these migrant workers in their later years of life, what is our relationship with them?" Chen Kaixiang pointed out that when the public searches for information about migrant workers on Google, "group fights" and "openings" are still common. "Drug Party" and other media reports, so that most people will have a negative stereotype of migrant workers, "When we have prejudice against migrant workers, the relationship between each other will naturally be tense." The generation of these prejudices stems from insufficient understanding of the matter. Take the interaction between employers and migrant workers as an example. Some employers see that migrant workers always use mobile phones when taking care of the elderly, and often directly label them as not serious about their work, and even confiscate their mobile phones and install surveillance cameras. So naturally it is impossible for the two parties to establish a good interactive relationship. If you can further think about the reasons why migrant workers always use mobile phones, you can understand that they leave their homes and leave behind their families, and spend almost 24 hours for other families. Using mobile phones to send messages and video calls is the only way for them to communicate with their families , not just superficially seeing that they "love to play with mobile phones and not work hard". Therefore, One-Forty is committed to letting the public see a more three-dimensional appearance of migrant workers and promoting mutual understanding. At the Sustainability Action Carnival, One-Forty organized the "Voice of Migrant" exhibition for many years to display the photographic works of migrant workers and invite everyone to see Taiwan through their eyes. The exhibition booth also designed a "tear off the label and paste blessings" activity, allowing people to tear off the black stickers on the wall with stereotypes of migrant workers and replace them with colorful sticky notes with blessings written on them. During the two-day event, the walls that were originally covered with black paper gradually became colorful, and the people left blessings such as "every dream is equal" and "I hope you can do what you want to do after returning to China", symbolizing letting go Prejudice, the beginning of promoting understanding. "It's not just the immigrant workers who benefit," Chen Kaixiang said, "When the immigrant workers have a good experience in Taiwan and return to their hometown with a good impression, it also lets the world see that Taiwan is a friendly and inclusive society. Zhang Wanyun shared that according to Glassdoor, an international business review website, nearly 80% of people believe that whether the working environment is diverse and inclusive is one of the main factors affecting whether they join. According to a survey conducted by Women Fans in Taiwan in 2022, 96% of the respondents prefer a diverse and inclusive workplace. Behind these numbers, it represents a reassuring workplace, which should respect different ages, genders, and body shapes and appearances, and give them fair treatment. Zhang Wanyun specifically mentioned what fairness is: "Fairness is to see the differences of each person and understand their different needs, and then give them the resources they need." What are the benefits of implementing DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) for enterprises? Zhang Wanyun then explained with two key figures—according to the McKinsey report, the top 1/4 companies with diverse team composition have 36% higher profitability than the bottom 1/4 companies; and according to the Gartner report, gender diversity Inclusive teams performed 50% better than homogenous, less inclusive teams. (In the same field, Gayon: Is our workplace diverse, fair, and inclusive enough? The truth in the workplace of thousands of people: More than half of the organizations still allow inappropriate gender jokes to happen ) Diversity and inclusion are important, and most of us know it, but how do we practice it in our lives? Zhang Wanyun invites everyone to practice, to dig out the reasons behind the situations that are taken for granted in daily life, and to be aware of their "unconscious bias". For example, when someone tells you that he participated in a technology product launch conference today, what gender and age do you imagine the person presenting on stage will be? For another example, when you go to a restaurant and the waiter says that there is a couple celebrating their anniversary in the box, what will be the image of the couple in your mind? Zhang Wanyun invites everyone to start from realizing their "unconscious bias" in daily life. For example, when someone tells you that he participated in a technology product launch conference today, what gender and age do you imagine the person presenting on stage will be? For another example, when you go to a restaurant and the waiter says that there is a couple celebrating their anniversary in the box, what will be the image of the couple in your mind? "There are no standard answers to these questions." Zhang Wanyun reminded that the important thing is to ask questions about one's "habits", to discover the reasons for shaping one's thoughts and impressions, and to think further, whether such impressions are possible otherwise. "It's virtually impossible to eliminate unconscious bias. Just being able to 'consciously' see your own discrimination is a good first step."
