Digital Green is a global development organization that empowers smallholder farmers to lift themselves out of poverty by harnessing the collective power of technology and grassroots level partnerships. They join forces with governments, private agencies and, most importantly, rural communities themselves to co-create digital solutions that are of the community and for the community.

When farmers have the tools they need to connect with one another, they’re far more likely to apply what they’ve learned on their farms and in their households – improving their own livelihoods and those of others in their community, in a manner that’s nutrition-sensitive, climate-resilient, and inclusive. So far, Digital Green has reached 1.5 million rural community members across over 8,000 villages in India, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Ghana, Niger and Tanzania.

How Digital Green works with each community:

"We understand that there are both informal and formal networks already in place — and that the people and organizations working in that community are best positioned to understand what will and won’t work. So we listen to those people and assess those systems to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement, using technology as an entry point to transform systems from the inside out.

 

"We’ve facilitated the production and dissemination of more than 6,000 locally relevant videos, in 50 languages, screened offline in communities that have limited electricity and Internet connectivity. The videos are also available online – ensuring the wisdom captured is accessible globally. 

 

"We build the capacity of frontline workers so they can build the capacity of others in their community – which means training is integral to our approach. With online and offline components, our training curriculum combines instructional videos and a mobile app to assess and spot improvement areas. 

 

"When farming families have access to information about their soil’s health, availability of inputs, weather forecast and potential pest attack together with scientifically vetted, localised, timely advisories, they stand a chance to boost agricultural productivity. "

Mercy For Animals (MFA) is dedicated to preventing cruelty to farmed animals and promoting compassionate food choices and policies. MFA serves as a voice for animals through proactive consumer education initiatives, cruelty investigations, corporate outreach, and legal advocacy. Most of their jobs come with the option to work remotely, if not completely remotely. They have opportunities in IT, outreach, legal, investigations, and operations, in the US, Asia, Mexico, and Brazil.

Root Capital invests in the growth of agricultural enterprises so they can transform rural communities. These businesses purchase crops such as coffee, cocoa,or grains from smallholder farmers. With growth, they become engines of impact that can raise incomes, create jobs, empower women and young people, sustain peace and preserve vulnerable ecosystems. Root Capital is a nonprofit.
