Why Nylas

Nylas is an advocate for the well-being of our employees. We trust our employees and give them the autonomy to achieve their goals without focusing on when, where, and how they get there. We are a flexibility first workplace, but if Nylanauts want to work from an office, we have access to WeWork spaces across the globe.

We are also strong supporters of internal and cross-team mobility and growth. We want Nylas to be a place where anyone can be supported to grow, learn, and become the best at what they do. We’ve been named a top Startup for career growth and development by Forbes, Great Places to Work, and Comparably!

From our CTO + Co-Founder, Christine Spang:

“We have a number of folks on the team who started as an individual contributor and became staff level or leaders in their area. I personally love seeing people reach their full potential and become successful at Nylas.”

Compensation Range: 92,000 - 120,000 + equity

About the role

As a remote-first company, a large part of this role will be implementing processes and guiding projects to help teams work better in an asynchronous method. We are looking to implement a data-driven approach so the progress reporting process is low overhead for the working team. The system should have enough fidelity that the stakeholders are kept up-to-date on the target release date and informed on the risks associated with key initiatives and projects. This individual understands what is being built and asks the right questions to de-risk the overall engineering program. A thriving program management function means we are efficient in our cross-functional collaboration, provide guidance on process management, and enhance our overall project execution & timeline predictability.

In addition to their general program management duties, the individual in this role will be responsible for leading the Incident Management Program for the Engineering Team at Nylas. You will partner with the various Engineering teams to ensure on-call rotations are appropriately staffed, coordinate training to share product knowledge and improve the resiliency of the team overall. You will be on point for helping improve the current postmortem process, making sure to involve the right engineers in a timely manner, create and track action items while also updating our status page and writing customer-facing reports to stay accountable with our customers. Lastly, we expect you to be data-driven in order to surface weaknesses/areas of improvements and drive initiative to close these gaps.

This position includes off-hours incident response and on-call duties.

Responsibilities:

  • Clearly communicate goals, roles, responsibilities, and desired outcomes to internal project teams
  • Standardize project, process framework, and language to maximize the performance of a remote-first team
  • Act as an Agile Subject Matter Expert and an impediment remover
  • Enable a data-driven approach to progress, risk, and cost reporting for the projects
  • Establish, drive, and deliver on committed objectives, timelines, and budget
  • Organize and standardize the way project information is collected and reported back so the amount of time the team spends in meetings is minimized
  • Holding a high bar of measuring velocity and impact, and providing visibility to areas that can be improved across the company
  • Drive and enhance the departmental OKRs and turn-key results into dashboards that can be used to track progress
  • Post updates to and maintain the company’s customer-facing system status pages

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience as a Technical Program/Project Manager working directly with engineering teams
  • Strong strategic planning and project management capabilities
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, and experience establishing guidelines in these areas for others
  • Experience problem-solving within fluid and constantly changing environments
  • Experience working cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, Marketing, Sales, and Finance
  • Experience in communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Nice to have: Hands-on experience with APIs and Automation
  • Nice to have: Coding experience in any programming language
  • Nice to have: Experience at a SaaS company or with API products and understand best practices and common patterns is a huge plus

Perks/Benefits

  • Unlimited Paid Time Off (PTO): we take this very seriously as we care about the well-being of our employees
  • Healthcare: 90% of medical, dental and vision coverage for you and your family
  • Retirement Plan: 401k & RRSP with a company match (super rare for a startup)
  • Holidays: 14 paid annual holidays (New Year’s Day, Family Day, President’s Day, Good Friday, Indigenous People's Day, etc)
  • Education Grant: annual learning & development benefit
  • Paid Parental Leave: 12 weeks parental leave (maternity & paternity)
