The Taxonomy Manager at Silverchair is responsible for building world-class, intuitive and comprehensive taxonomy data that is used across Silverchair sites to optimize discovery and classification. This role facilitates a seamless and effective search and browse experience for Silverchair's customers.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Collaborate with internal teams to provide semantic enrichment for applicable clients
  • Manage semantic categories and associated taxonomy mappings
  • Participate in special taxonomy projects
  • Act as liaison for external vocabulary resources licensed by Silverchair (UMLS)
  • Perform quality assurance checks to existing taxonomies
  • Research, coordinate and implement taxonomy enhancements and refinements
  • Understand and apply user centered design best practices and techniques
  • Work with product management and other internal customers on functionality changes surrounding taxonomies
  • Perform additional tasks as needed to meet the needs of the team and department, and to support Silverchair's business needs

What You Need To Bring

The Taxonomy Manager must bring subject area expertise in health care or related field relevant to a specialized Silverchair taxonomy. Successful candidates will have strong technical skills using Taxonomy Management applications, online research, and use of internet tools. He/She should also have familiarity with tagging/indexing applications including auto-tagging and auto-categorization. The Taxonomy Manager must have strong attention to detail when assessing complex and voluminous data sets in a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment.

Preferred Skills / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Information and Library Science (MLIS) or relevant subject area preferred
    • Degrees of a lower level must be accompanied by appropriate additional experience
  • Experience using standard medical taxonomies such as MESH, UMLS, Snomed, etc.
  • Experience developing taxonomies, controlled vocabularies, or thesauri
